Join London Draiwng Group’s Luisa-Maria MacCormack (@luisamariamfineart) as we delve into the inky world of the inimitable MARLENE DUMAS! A portrait artist like (literally) no other, Marlene has built her international career on her ability to depict the human face using an incredible expressive touch.
Working from a huge variety of source materials, from polaroids to magazine cuttings Dumas explores the grotesque qualities of portraiture, expressing enormous emotional range in her paintings in both oil and ink.
This class dedicated to Marlene’s practice of Ink Portraiture will take students on a journey through her outstanding body of work, exploring the many techniques she uses to create such powerful portraits.
Working both from ourselves in the mirror as portrait sitters, and from some seriously cool source materials, this class will be a deep dive into a different, more expressive portrait practice!
YOU WILL NEED:
PAPER - preferably a nice thick watercolour paper that will take lots of water!
BLACK INK - Ideally this should be Indian or Sumi ink, but you can make any black ink work!
COLOURED INK - our tutor will be using DR PH Martens Watercolour inks, but any ink will work great for this, have a variety of a few Marlene inspired colours!
BRUSHES - you will DEFINTELY need a large mop headed brush, as well as some medium and smaller sized brushes
Extras: sponge, kitchen towel, rock salt
