About this event

MMB is very pleased to announce the publication of Natasha Carver’s fantastic book Marriage, Gender and Refugee Migration (Rutgers University Press, 2021). We are privileged to host the online launch of this lyrical and insightful ethnography of the lives and relationships of UK-Somali migrants.

Natasha will introduce the book and reflect on her experience of researching this topic before responding to questions from MMB Director, Bridget Anderson. We will also hear from Katharine Charsley, Professor of Migration Studies at the University of Bristol, who will discuss the book's key themes, and from poet Kaltun Duale of Kally’s Kollectives. We are delighted that Kaltun will be reading poems from Marriage, Gender and Refugee Migration as well as some of her own work. There will also be a chance for questions from the audience.

Natasha is a Lecturer in International Criminology in the School for Policy Studies, University of Bristol. She is also the coordinator for the MMB research challenge Bodies, Borders, Justice.

A Zoom link will be sent to attendees the evening before the event.

Everyone is welcome. We are seeking to make our events accessible to everyone, so please let us know if you face barriers we could address.
