MARTA CAPPONI (VOCAL)
Italian born jazz singer, songwriter and improviser Marta Capponi moves with ease across genres like jazz, folk, original and Brazilian music, holding the audience with her strong communicative skills and vibrant energy she is an acclaimed artist of the UK and Italian Jazz scene.
Marta began her career at the early age of 12 and moved forward studying jazz at the Saint Louis College of Music of Rome and performing in the most prestigious Italian jazz festivals like Umbria Jazz and Ravello Jazz Festival playing with famous artists like Fabrizio Bosso, Javier Girotto, Giovanni Mazzarino, Bobby Durham, Max Ionata, Emiliano Caroselli and many more.
She moved to London in 2012 and quickly gaining the respect of the jazz community and performing in the most prestigious venues like Ronnie Scott’s, 606 Club, Pizza Express Jazz Club, playing with prominent musicians like Antonio Forcione, Gilad Atzmon, Andrew McCormack, Kevin Glasgow, Luca Boscagin, Davide Mantovani, Marcelo Andrade and many others.
In 2020 moving back to Rome, she released a jazz album called “Life Within” and she is currently working on a new album which will be released by the end of 2024.
Elis Regina is a great inspiration for Marta and her love for Brazilian and jazz music results in an absolute masterpiece tribute to the singer.
SAM WATTS (Piano)
Sam Watts is a pianist and composer specialising in Brazilian music and Jazz. Born in Birmingham U.K, he began playing at the age of 6. After taking an interest in improvisation and jazz as a teenager he eventually went on to study with scholarships at both Leeds College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, where he won the Humphrey Lyttleton Prize. His early influences were jazz pianists such as Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans and Erroll Garner, although he has always maintained an interest in classical music as well, and has extensively studied classical composition, counterpoint and orchestration.
He is an established jazz pianist and has worked with artists including Jean Toussaint, Jason Miles, Jason Marsalis, Abram Wilson, Ray Warleigh and Judi Jackson. He has performed internationally at numerous jazz festivals and concert venues, including performances at Wigmore Hall, Symphony Hall, A Love Supreme festival, Paris Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s jazz club and the Royal Albert Hall, often performing his own compositions. He has also made live appearances on BBC Radio 2 and 3 and has recently toured in all over Europe and further afield, including recent appearances in South Africa, India, Brazil and Canada.
MATHEUS NOVA (Bass)
Matheus Nova - ( Electric & acoustic Bass ) is very popular in the Latin and London music circles and is recognised for his ability to ‘design’ astonishing bass lines. It has been said of him that he has the ability to “transform folkloric into “funkloric”.” Matheus has performed with many groups, including the Brazilian Samba Divas Elza Soares and artists such as Antonio Forcione, Roberto Menescal and Alcione.
EMILIANO COROSELLI (Drums)
Emiliano was born in Rome, Italy and started to play the drums at the relatively late age of 17. His passion for the music of John Bonham, Stewart Copeland, Max Roach, Art Blackey and
Elvin Jones.
"I realised then that what really captured my attention was the African
feel that those master drummers had."
He had the opportunity to experience the African influence for himself when he moved to Cuba to study Afro-Cuban percussion and drum set at the
E.N.A. National School of Art in Havana from 1998-2001.
Emiliano then moved back to Rome when he was 26 and continued his studies
at the S.Luis College of Music and the Conservatory of Music of
Frosinone. During this time he formed the band "Juju 4et" and recorded the album "tempi provvisori"
After collaborating with many musicians at the Italian jazz scene and after years of experience as a sideman, Emiliano knowledge of
the roots of jazz, the richness of his dynamics and his attention to
interplay with other musicians made him one of the most in-demand drummers and percussionists in London nowadays.
"Each style of music requires a different approach and the
proper touch. A drummer must first master a style in order to
play professionally. Big band, small jazz combo, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban,
funk, pop, rock etc.”
