Martin Luther and the Reformation: What was it all about?

Tuesday 31 October, 6 pm:

31 October 2017 is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Rare Books Curator Dr Anette Hagan tells the story of Martin Luther (1483-1546) and the Reformation movement. Luther triggered developments whose effects are still noticeable today. His challenges to papal authority and the resulting controversies were mainly carried out in writing: the Reformation is unthinkable without the printing press. On display will be material dating from that time, charting the events leading to the split of Western Christianity into the Catholic and the Protestant churches.
