Event description
Children will learn how can they decode the visual image of Mary and Child.

About this Event

We will learn all about the symbolism that makes the Madonna and Child genre of art so iconic, important and instantly recognisable. Why is Mary wearing blue? Is the abundance of gold just there to make the picture beautiful? Why is Mary sitting down with her child? There are so many secrets within to be discovered…

Hands on art history lesson where children will first learn how to break down symbolism of "Mary and Child" into elements followed by making own card thinking of those elements of symbolism and putting them back together for their own version of this religious imagery. Children also will learn why it was Mary who is depicted most frequently in Christian religious imagery.
