Description

Join experienced British concert and recording artist Mary Carewe for a in interactive lesson in vocal techniques for the recording studio.

The class will cover:

  • The way a mic responds to distance

  • Consonants - how to cheat the 't's, 'c's, 'p's and 's's etc

  • Fading out long notes

  • Headphone balance - what to ask for.

  • Tricks for making sure you are in tune/in time and not over singing.

  • Making sure first note you sing is in tune/right sound

  • 'Dropping in' - how to help make a lead vocal sound as if it's all recorded in one take.

  • How to change the attitude/sound if something isn't working for the producer.

We are running five 45min sessions, each holding 10 people so book your preferred time now to avoid disappointment.

Mary has long been established as one of the UK’s most in demand and versatile vocalists. Her experience is wide ranging and includes work as an international concert soloist as well as a highly regarded session singer.

Her vocals feature on the classical chart-topping ADIEMUS recordings and is sampled on the ‘techno’ Aphex Twin track XTAL.

She has sung BVs for artists inc Steps, Westlife, Pulp and Joe Cocker, on numerous Hollywood film soundtracks such as Dr Strange, The Hobbit, Pirates Of The Caribbean and Disney’s forthcoming Beauty And The Beast, TV shows like Pop Idol, Stars In Their Eyes, French And Saunders and Benidorm and many tv and radio jingles most notably 'Autoglass' for which she apologises.

As a soloist Mary has recorded film music, theatre songs and classic pop repertoire for releases by EMI, Universal and Readers Digest and she performs around the world with orchestras in iconic venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall.
