Maryhill Burgh Halls is delighted to host a NEW art programme, full of inspiring and creative workshops and classes for all ages and abilities. Join our wonderful range of artists to try out your crafty side, discover your voice in more ways than one, meet new friends and have fun!
Creative Writing for Beginners and Beyond
Artist: Annette Allison
Dates: 29th and 30th October (weekend booking)
Times: 10am – 4pm
Improve your English skills, develop your self-confidence and relax through creativity. Taking Maryhill as our starting point, we will explore some local heritage for story setting, create our own characters to populate or search for real famous local characters. We will learn the basics of story and poem structure and have great fun with characterisation and voice. Getting our work out to an audience is also a joy of writing, so prepare yourself for your 3 minutes of fame! Classes are suitable for senior school pupils and adults of all ages.
Christmas Upcycling (5 week block)
Artist: Elisabeth Viguie-Culshaw
Dates: 5 week block from 24th Oct (24th Oct, 31st Oct, 7th Nov, 14th Nov and 21st Nov)
Times: 6pm – 8pm
Make your own Christmas presents this year in this creative 5 week course in the lead up to winter. Personalise your gifts by decorating upcycled materials and learn different techniques such as stencilling and distressing. Art materials will be provided but feel free to bring your own upcycled materials to be decorated such as mirrors, frames or pots etc. See tired looking household goods come back to life with your creative upcycling.

Creative Furniture Upcycling (Weekend) - FULLY BOOKED

Upcycle a small piece of furniture over this creative and insightful weekend practising different techniques of distressing and adorning using recycled materials. Bring your furniture back to life or personalise a gift for friend in this inspiring upcycling workshop.
Introduction to Songwriting
Artist: Chiara Berardelli

Times: 10am – 5pm
Everyone has a song in them! If you have ever had the urge to express yourself through song but don’t know where to start, then this is the course for you! We will look at the building blocks of songwriting, harmony, melody, rhythm, structure and, of course, the words. By the end of the day we will have explored where lyric ideas come from and how to develop them as well as covering simple chord theory and developing chord progressions. No previous musical or writing experience necessary but if you do play an instrument, bring it along. We will have a keyboard and a guitar.
Calling all creative detectives, this workshop uses design and storytelling to reimagine the world of Sherlock Holmes. Mixing story, play and collaboration. Sherlock Holmes & The Internet Of Things premiered at The New York Film Festival, this next adventure invites Scotland’s finest sleuths to come join the fun as we delve into the crime case studies conjured up by Arthur Conan Doyle. Discover how to use deductive reasoning and storytelling with creative design thinking to create and solve a series of global connected crime scene.
This Pop-Up Comedy workshop is all about having fun, building confidence, and learning new creative teamwork skills through the art of improv. Through a series of drama games participants will learn character driven sketch and improv comedy techniques and have fun co-creating and performing devised plays and sketches together. Everyone is welcome to come join the fun. This workshop is designed to be supportive and open to all abilities.
The Puppet Sock Show - A puppet making and comedy drama workshop

The Puppet Sock Show is an introductory workshop for adults to delve into different puppetry techniques from making to performing. This workshop is all about having fun, building confidence, and learning new creative teamwork skills through the playful art of puppetry. Through a series of drama games participants will learn how to create a character through character-driven sketch and impro comedy techniques and have fun co-creating and performing devised plays and sketches together.
