Gavin Schaffer is Professor of History at the University of Birmingham, specialising in race and immigration history and has a particular interest in racial science, race and the media and the history of racial violence.

Here Gavin will be talking about ‘suspect communities’, specifically what happened to the Irish community in the aftermath of the 1974 Birmingham Pub Bombings.

Gavin will focus on community relations in Birmingham after the November 1974 pub bombings, especially as regards Birmingham's Irish communities. He will consider the impacts of trauma on the city and how, over time, Birmingham has come to terms with this dark day in its history.
