Event description

Description

As part of the programming for Queer Noise: The History of LGBT+ Music & Club Culture in Manchester, Manchester Digital Music Archives and artsmethods at the University of Manchester present a two-hour master class with curator Abigail Ward. Queer Noise is a community curated exhibition designed by Abigail Ward and part of Never Going Underground: The Fight for LGBT+ Rights season at the People's History Museum that will be on display from 1 July to 10 September 2017.

Through Abigail Ward's in-depth discussion of her curatorial and research practice, this class will teach you how online exhibitions can bring archival material alive for public engagement. She will outline how the role of a digital curator is different that of a traditional curator and give insight into strategies for interpretation and accessibility through tone, accuracy, and style. It will instruct participants in how to create a story and tease out unexpected narratives to reveal and celebrate hidden histories.

Abigail Ward is an award-winning curator, writer, DJ and project manager with over fifteen years' experience in the music industry and cultural sector.
