MASTERCLASS: Non-fiction and the truth masterclass with Alexander Masters
Wed 3 May 2017, 18:30 – 20:30 BST
WORD FACTORY PRESENTS:
Creative non-fiction and the truth with Alexander Masters.
Author and screenwriter Alexander Masters was studying maths and quantum physics as a postgraduate when he published his first book about working as an assistant in a hostel for the homeless. Stuart, A Life Backwards, is one of the most astonishing works of literary non-fiction to have been written in the last twenty years, winning Alexander the Guardian First Book Award and the Hawthornden Prize. It was the beginning of his career as a writer.
In this two-hour class, Alexander will talk about the process of writing his first book, what he had already absorbed in his own writing, what he had to learn about his own honesty, who and what to trust in his researches and in dealing with the lives of vulnerable adults. He will also focus on what inspires his own creativity and examine how we learn to respond to the truth of the lives of people on the margins of society.
There will be time for questions and answers.
Ideal for writers seeking inspiration with their non-fiction projects.
Arts Bermondsey Project Space can be found on Bermondsey St near the White Cube Gallery.
Class limited to 20 places.
