Masterclass: Tax and Finance for Business Growth
Wed 7 December 2016, 09:30 – 12:00 GMT
Are you looking to develop your knowledge about tax efficiency, taxation for growth, and funding options including SME debt finance?
Join us for what is set to be a lively panel discussion around tax and finance with Paul Hunt, Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance, and Donald McIntosh, business finance and debt funding expert.
What you will learn
Paul’s substantial knowledge about tax includes taxation for raising finance, debt v’s equity, ways to attract finance, lending, cash extraction and keeping and motivating staff in tax efficient ways.
Donald will cover when debt finance is appropriate for SME's, types of Debt Finance available and introduce the new platform for SME debt finance, Funding Options. Funding Options is one of the three designated platforms in the Treasury programme. From Q4 of this year, when major banks fail to provide funding to SME's, by law they must refer the SME to a designated platform. You should start to hear about this programme later this month as there will be significant publicity. Funding Options have a team of expert brokers and provide the most suitable finance from a panel of around 70 lenders.
Paul joined the Private Client Services department of Arthur Andersen (subsequently Deloitte) in 2001, having read Accounting and Mathematics at the University of Sheffield. He gained professional qualifications from the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CTA), as well as the Chartered Insurance Institute (CFP). In his seven years in professional services, Paul specialised in tax compliance and advisory solutions for High Net Worth Individuals, Owner Managed Businesses, and Mergers and Acquisitions.
Paul left Deloitte in 2008 to pursue his passion for teaching and learning. He joined Kaplan Financial, where he taught advanced taxation, business law, and strategic business management across the full suite of professional qualifications including ICAEW, ACCA, ATT and CTA. In 2012, Paul was awarded “Private Sector Lecturer of the Year” by PQ Magazine.
Paul joined Manchester Metropolitan University in December 2013, where he continues to teach taxation and business law across various undergraduate and professional programmes.
Donald’s background is a Chartered Accountant and CFO of a number of companies. He has worked with many high growth tech companies to sort out funding, structure and strategy.
