Aims of the course:
To deepen knowledge and understanding of the mastery curriculum in mathematics, specifically with reference to Early Years and Key Stage 1. To enable teachers to further their confidence in teaching mathematics in the Early Years and Key Stage 1. To examine common misconceptions within each key stage and how embedding the mastery curriculum can support children in these areas.
Early Years and Key Stage 1 Teachers & support staff in schools and Early Years settings.
This Course will address the essential skills and practice to:
Support the development of the mastery curriculum within Early Years and Key Stage 1;
Explore possible strategies for supporting children’s development in mathematics in the Early Years and Key Stage 1;
Discuss and reflect on own practice in light of recent research in Early Years and Key Stage 1 mathematics.
You will leave with:
An understanding of the mastery curriculum;
Ideas for supporting a mastery curriculum within different areas of mathematics;
knowledge of current issues within Early Years and Primary mathematics education.
