Aims of the course:
The aim of the workshop series is to allow participants to reflect on models for learning mathematics that foster deep, relational understanding of mathematics. Participants will have the opportunity to develop their understanding of what mastery learning is in mathematics and to look at classrooms that facilitate conceptual development and reasoning alongside mathematical fluency. Insight into effective problem solving is at the heart of the workshops.
Key Stage 2 and 3 Teachers.
This Course will address the essential skills and practice to:
Support the development of the mastery curriculum within Key Stage 2 and key Stage 3;
Explore possible strategies for supporting children’s development in mathematics in Key stage 2 and 3;
Discuss and reflect on your own practice in light of recent research in Key Stage 2 and 3 mathematics.
You will leave with:
An understanding of the mastery curriculum;
Ideas for supporting a mastery curriculum within the specialist areas of mathematics;
A knowledge of current issues within Key stage 2 and 3 mathematics education.
