Event description
BAA Green brand-new series Material Bank: What are ‘Good’ Materials? with Architect Pat Borer.

About this Event

Join the Birmingham Architectural Association on Wednesday 20th January at 5:30pm for the first instalment of our 'Materials Bank' series; with Green Building expert Pat Borer.

All materials are bad. But some are worse than others and we as designers need to weigh up which material is appropriate for each element of the design. We must look at things holistic and strike a balance between: cost, in use carbon, embodied carbon, comfort, beauty, safety.

Our speaker Pat Borer will be discussing this venn diagram of design as well as providing a lively discussion on what really makes a 'good' material.

Pat Borer is an architect with over 40 years experience in designing and constructing ‘green’ buildings. He has been closely involved with the Centre for Alternative Technology in the design and development of: ultra-low energy buildings, passive and active solar heating systems, photovoltaic roofs, benign building materials and technologies, co-operative ways of building and healthy internal environments.

Elsewhere in the country, Pat has been developing ecological timber frame designs for the self-build housing sector.

The Birmingham Architectural Association is kindly supported by our patron Allermuir as well as our sponsors Allgood, Altro, Ibstock, Milliken, Reynaers, SKG Kitchen Gallery and Taylor Maxwell.

Follow the Birmingham Architectural Association on social media: Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram and on Eventbrite to keep in the loop about future events.

This is a free event but booking is essential with spaces limited.

We look forward to seeing you there!
