Sat 8 April 2017, 11:00 – 12:00 BST
We are delighted to welcome international artists Bouke de Vries and Richard Slee to Messums Wiltshire to discuss their work, concepts and techniques. Discussion conducted by Catherine Milner.
Bouke de Vries
Born in Utrecht, The Netherlands, Bouke de Vries studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven, and Central St Martin’s, London. After working with John Galliano, Stephen Jones and Zandra Rhodes, he switched careers and studied ceramics conservation and restoration at West Dean College. Every day in his practice as a private conservator he was faced with issues and contradictions around perfection and worth:
Richard Slee studied at Carlisle College of Art and Design (1964–65), at the Central School of Art and Design (1965–70), from where he graduated with a first-class honours degree in ceramics, and at the Royal College of Art (1986–88).
Slee has been professor of ceramics at Camberwell College of Arts, London since 1992 and was awarded the Jerwood Prize for Ceramics in 2002. He had a retrospective exhibition at the Crafts Council in 2004 and an exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum from June 2010 to April 2011.
