Chair, Dr Anita Banerjee, obstetric physician, diabetes and endocrinology consultant, Guys & St Thomas’ Hospital. Our first event will focus on exploring local priorities and co-design the network.

What will I gain?

We hope to create stimulating conversations around maternity & neonatal safety improvement. You will have chance to hear directly from colleagues about leading examples of work locally, as well as discuss some of your own insights, experiences and challenges.

We will also be introducing the national Maternity & Neonatal Safety Improvement Programme and what future opportunities lie ahead for south London.

Who should join?

This event welcomes people who share our goal of improving maternity & neonatal safety. Registration is open to people with lived experience of Maternity or Neonatal services, including carers, clinical and managerial staff from NHS, independent and private health and social care providers, commissioning leads, local authorities, voluntary sector partners and other system partners.

The Maternal & Neonatal Safety Improvement Programme (MatNatSIP) is led by the NHSE/I National Patient Safety team and covers all maternity and neonatal services across England; supported by 15 regionally–based Patient Safety Collaboratives, the programme aims to:

- Improve the safety and outcomes of maternal and neonatal care by reducing unwarranted variation and providing a high-quality healthcare experience for all women, babies and families across maternity and neonatal care settings in England.

- Contribute to the national ambition, set out in the NHS Maternity Transformation Programme and the National Maternity Review (Better Births) of reducing the rates of maternal and neonatal deaths, stillbirths, and brain injuries that occur during or soon after birth by 50% by 2025.
