'Maths in the middle school'

Smooth and successful progression from Y5 to Y8

Project launch with Q&A

Wednesday 13th December 2017 from 3.00pm - 4.30pm

We know that too many pupils who flourish in Maths in primary then flounder in Secondary - why is this, and what, as teachers and leaders, can we do to minimise this? How best can we prepare our KS2 pupils for the journey ahead, and how best can we build on our KS3 students’ prior experience and existing skills and understanding? The 2012 Ofsted report “The Wasted Years” and the recent EEF review “Improving Mathematics in Key Stages 2 and 3” bring these questions – and problems – into sharp, stark focus.

London North East and London Thames Maths Hubs are working together with primary and secondary schools who want to address the issues these reports raise, and put into practice effective strategies in response to them. This will be one of the major action research priorities of both Hubs this year, and we are now looking for schools who want to take part in the workgroup. We are hosting a project launch for schools who are keen to participate and want to find out more about the benefits of taking part in the workgroup. We invite you to join us on Wednesday 13th December to find out more about:

  • The project structure, goals and evaluation

  • The commitment expected of participating schools

  • The professional development and training opportunities that are part of the project

  • The wider benefits for participating schools: raising attainment, preparation for inspection

Who is it for?

Classroom teachers, subject leaders and senior leaders, from primary or secondary schools.
