Maths: Primary to secondary transition

This session is designed to support secondary maths teachers by giving them an insight into the White Rose Primary Maths scheme and create a seamless transition for new year 7s.

The crucial role of successful transition from Y6 into Y7 to avoid a ‘learning gap’ is well established. Delving into the White Rose approach and equipping teachers with a range of strategies to continue students’ learning journey, this session is specifically designed for Secondary Maths teachers of Year 7 and Subject Leaders of Secondary Maths.

We look in detail at a selection of topics and focus on how primary teachers use of a variety of representations to underpin depth of understanding. Gain an insight into the embedded skills that Y7 students will arrive with and how to effectively build upon them from the outset.
