Dates & Time:

Day 1 – 17th October (9.15am to 3.00pm)

Day 2 – 14th November (9.15am to 3.00pm)

Day 3 – 23rd January (9.15am to 3.00pm)

Participants need to attend all of the sessions listed above to participate in the project.

Target Audience:

KS1 Teachers, maximum two participants per school

Programme Outline:

The focus will be on improving teachers’ understanding of how children learn maths and to ensure they have the appropriate mathematical knowledge to teach their pupils well. The workshops will have an emphasis on mathematical structures in key areas of mathematics.

How does it work? Teachers will attend 3 days of workshops over one term. Classroom practice will develop through a series of gap tasks where teachers try out activities to promote depth of understanding, reasoning and fluency; these might include pupil interviews, lesson study and work scrutiny. Research and evidence are used to inform their practice and teachers are encouraged to share these more widely in schools to support discussion on current policies and approaches.

Workshop 1 Consider how to support children’s development of number sense and mathematical language and consider key aspects of Place Value

Workshop 2 The day will focus on Addition and Subtraction and will look at key aspects of understanding these topics.

Workshop 3 The day will focus on Multiplication and Division and will look at key aspects of understanding these topics.

Refreshments - Tea & Coffee will be served during the day, please bring your own lunch

Parking - Limited parking is available, alternatively please park considerately on the roads surrounding the school
