Mathsweek Ireland and Queen's University are delighted to invite you to join us for what promises to be a hugely enjoyable and exciting event. We will be joined by one of the UK's most inspirational maths communicators, Bobby Seagull, to tell us about his life in Maths.

Bobby Seagull is a teacher, broadcaster and writer, who rose to fame after TV appearances on University Challenge and then in his own series Monkman & Seagull's Genius Guide to Britain. His second book, The Life-Changing Magic of Numbers, was published in 2018.

For Bobby, maths was instrumental in unlocking the secrets of everyday life from understanding the randomness of football results, to organising his time and his choice of music. Using stories from his own life, Bobby brings his infectious enthusiasm to everything from the right number of friends to have to the power of prime numbers controlling credit card numbers and cicada insect hibernation habits. You’ll never look at your maths lessons in school the same way again!

The talk will take place in the Larmor Lecture theatre, on the main University Campus. Space is limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Unfortunately, we cannot offer parking on campus due to limited space and ongoing building work. However, minibuses will be permitted entry to the main university site (University Square entrance) for drop-off and collection of pupils. In the registration form, please indicate if you require access. Larger buses should drop off on University Road (in front of the University)

Where is the Larmor Lecture Theatre?

The Larmor is on the central Queen's campus, situated in the Physics Building adjacent to the main quad. From the front entrance to the Lanyon building (the main, red brick University building), walk right towards the Whitla hall until you see signs for the Mathsweek event.

What age group is this event for?

Although the event is appropriate for all high-school age students, we are targetting students in years 10 and 11 (ages 13-15).
