About this event

Join us on the 11th June where our delivery partners AQuA, along with other key partners from within the GMEC local maternity system (LMS), will be providing an overview of the key principles regarding informed decision making, as well as case studies and practical tips to ensuring a multidisciplinary approach to aid informed decision making.

The Ockenden Report (2020) includes 7 immediate actions including listening to women and families. More specifically the report states;

‘All members of the maternity team must provide women with accurate and contemporaneous evidence-based information as per national guidance. This will ensure women can participate equally in all decision making processes and make informed choices about their care. Women’s choices following a informed decision making process must be respected.’

Informed Decision Making ensures that women and their families are supported to make decisions that are right for them. It is a collaborative process through which a clinician supports a patient to reach a decision about their treatment. The conversation brings together:

• Informed the clinician’s expertise, such as treatment options, evidence, risks and benefits

• What the patient knows best: their preferences, personal circumstances, goals, values and beliefs.

This event is for multidisciplinary clinicians, MVP chairs, board level safety champions and senior system partners supporting the maternity and neonatal patient safety agenda within the GMEC LMS.

A full programme outline will be informed in the coming weeks.
