Matters Of Vinyl Importance presents: An Evening with Pamela Des Barres
Event Information
Description
Matters Of Vinyl Importance are thrilled to announce that legendary author and journalist Pamela Des Barres will be joining them at 7pm on Thursday 26th April to talk about the new and updated version of her 1987 classic book I’m With The Band, published on April 19th by Omnibus Press.
The event, which will be hosted by Roisin O’Connor, will see Pamela tell tales, read extracts and answer questions from the audience.
Pamela was a regular on Sunset Strip where she knocked on artists’ dressing rooms and immersed herself in the drugs, danger and ecstasy of the 1960s music business. Over the next 10 years she had very public love affairs with icons including Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Keith Moon and Jim Morrison, and as a member of the GTO's - a girl group masterminded by Frank Zappa - she was at the centre of one of the most exciting times in modern music history.
First published in 1987, I’m With The Band pre-empted books by Patti Smith, Carrie Brownstein, Viv Albertine and Kim Gordon, and went on to be declared as one of Rolling Stone’s twenty greatest books about music. Now revised and updated by Pamela, it’s a rare perspective on rock ‘n’ roll through the female gaze. An ordained minister, Pamela now teaches women’s writing workshops in Los Angeles and across the US.
Warm, witty and brutally honest, 'I’m With The Band' by Pamela Des Barres stands out as a feminist classic.
Entry for this intimate event will be by advance ticket only priced £20, which includes a signed copy of ' I’m With The Band'.
Licence Granted. Beer & wine will be on sale at this event.
