The objective of the seminar is to look at University partnerships to include UK based universities working in partnership with an overseas University via a Transnational Education (TNE) programme. Further the seminar will also look at a UK university working collaboratively with a large multi-national company.
On the academic side (University to University partnership) we will explore the “extra” dimensions that can enrich a partnership e.g. research collaboration, the offer of staff development e.g. PG Cert (HE) and franchising such a programme to set up an international regional centre, staff and student exchange to provide a ready study abroad opportunity. I would propose to include examples from different Universities both UK based and at least one from overseas (e.g. Egypt) to get a perspective of the benefit of the partnership from both sides.
The University of Greenwich had a very successful partnership with Pfizer, which included a post-doctoral training scheme, PhD training, part-time BSc and HNC. The HNC involved delivering the programme on-site at the company. Both an academic perspective and very importantly a perspective from a former senior Pfizer vice-president who can speak about the benefits to the company as to how and why a small initial engagement between the University and company grew to successfully operate simultaneously at very different levels and included teaching and research. We can present this partnership as a potential model for others.
