About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours 15 minutes

At this summer’s Strathspey Monitor Farm Open Meeting on the 29th July, from 4.45pm, a range of presenters will explain how agritech has been helping the Monitor Farmers, the Smith family, get the most out of their land without compromising nature.

  • They have been helped by virtual fencing collars to free up in-bye land, access previously unused nature-rich rough grazing and keep the bull close to their replacement heifers.
  • Docks thrive in Strathspey and impact on the Smiths’ aims to improve their silage quantity and quality. SoilEssentials will demonstrate SKAi, their selective sprayer, which hits docks while conserving clover and other species.
  • Local farmer and contractor Rich Young will highlight the opportunities to rejuvenate swards and insert cover crops using an air-disc drill and GPS.

The Smiths are strong supporters of RSABI, the charity which provides practical, emotional and financial support to those working within the Scottish agriculture industry. Their Case Officer, Shirley Hastings, will be at Auchernack, to discuss the charity’s work.

There will be a BBQ after the farm walks.
