Come to Maya at the Thames for some fun and games!
This September we will be learning about the ancient Maya ballgame and hieroglyphs.
From the 20th to the 22nd of September 2013 we will be organising the 2nd Annual Maya Hieroglyphics Workshop at the UCL Institute of Archaeology.
The event will start with an introductory lecture on Friday evening and then 3 different workshop choices for Saturday and Sunday: A beginners’ workshop for people without any knowledge of Maya glyphs (or if you would like to freshen up very dormant/old knowledge); an intermediate workshop about glyphs, iconography and their real life counterparts (for people with an understanding of the basics covered in the beginners’ class); and a ballgame workshop, which will combine working on Maya hieroglyphs with learning about the history and traditions of the Mesoamerican ballgame, culminating in actually learning how to play! On Sunday afternoon we will then have a ballgame tournament to play or watch!
