Event description

Description

We would like to invite fellow MBA members and CoCoast volunteers to join us at Mount Batten, Plymouth on a survey for the non-native sea squirt Corella eumyota. See a paper here for more information on the topic.

We will meet at the shelter in between the Mount Batten pub and the Mount Batten Ferry pontoon (http://goo.gl/maps/oZyyK) at 12:00 on Saturday 23rd February. All participants will be briefed on the survey protocol and how to identify the species. Due to weather conditions during the last survey our time was cut short so this time we will just be visiting one site at Mount Batten bay. We will undertake a timed search at the site and once finished, we will have completed the Corella survey data for this winter allowing a comparison between all sites. Data will be made publicly available through the National Biodiversity Network Atlas.

The survey is suitable for all levels of expertise. We will be outside for the entire event, so please dress appropriately for the conditions. Snacks will be provided! So please let us know of any special dietary requirements you have.

There is a free car park at Mount Batten and a water taxi available (£1.50 each way) from the Barbican running every half an hour.

Open to MBA members and Capturing our Coast Volunteers only of anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult (accompanying adult does not need to be a member).

Booking in advance is essential!

More information at www.mba.ac.uk or on the MBA Facebook Page and further details will be emailed to members one week before each activity.

If you are not already a member, visit: www.mba.ac.uk/membership to join.
