Sing for your heart

Two days of uplifting singing workshops with Bruce Ncube. If you’d like to attend both days, contact us for a combined ticket discount of £10

Each ticket bought is for one stand-alone four-hour workshop of singing

Mban (meaning ‘sing’ in Kalanga) brings to you Zimbabwean songs and 3-6 part harmonies to lift you and your spirits in connection and the emotion of making these beautiful songs together. Bruce Ncube has visited and led many workshops in Edinburgh in years past, and we are delighted to have him return to share his special and unique blend of teaching his songs and developing confidence in each of the singers. If you’ve been before, you know what this left you with.

Bruce’s teaching style is traditional / oral; reminiscent of when people would gather around a fire in the evenings or whilst working in the fields and start weaving harmonies. The workshops are inclusive and participatory and one does not need to be experienced in singing to take part In them. Bruce has over 12 years’ experience of touring and teaching in the UK and much of his recent and current work involves major festivals such as WOMAD, African Drum Village, Drum Camp, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Edinburgh Mela, and many choirs, singing groups and schools across the country.

If you can afford to pay extra for the workshops, this money helps with Bruce's ongoing support of young musicians in Zimbabwe to develop their skills and maintain their musical traditions (prices are £20 (concession), £30 (general) or £50 (includes donation)

They take place on Friday 22nd July (12-4pm) and Saturday 23rd July (2-6pm) in Old St Paul’s Church Hall, 39 Jeffrey Street, Edinburgh – very close to Waverley Station

Access/travel – on-street parking is limited so public transport is advised with Princes Street, North Bridge, and the Royal Mile within walking distance. The hall is a two-minute walk from the rear of Waverley train station.
