Description

This Masterclass is aimed at professionals working in Lambeth, and will explore the legal framework to make Best Interests decisions under the Mental Capacity Act.

  • 09:00 – 09:30: Registration
  • 09.30 – 09.40: Opening address: Lambeth SAB MCA Good Practice Guidance - (David Rowley, LSAB MCA subgroup chair)
  • 09.40 - 10.00: Overview of the MCA (Dr Dan Bailey, Consultant Physician in Clinical Gerontology/ Consultant MCA Lead, Kings College Hospital NHSFT)
  • 10.00 – 10.30: Applying the MCA – local good practice: (Dental Department, Kings College Hospital and Fairlie House, West Norwood)
  • 10.30 – 11.00: Advance Directives in Mental Health - Mental Health and Justice Project (Dr Lucy Stephenson, Clinical Research Associate, South London and Maudsley NHSFT)
  • 11.00 – 11.15: Coffee/ Tea Break
  • 11:15 – 12:30: Best Interest Decision Making - law and best practice (Alex Ruck-Keene, Barrister)
  • 12:30 – 13:30: Lunch

Please note - There is a separate but complementary afternoon event which follows on immediately after the morning session on the same day. The afternoon session is aimed at both professionals and the public, and focuses on rights, advocacy and advance planning. You will need to register separately if you wish to attend in the afternoon. Please feel free to attend either morning, afternoon or both sessions as your diary allows
