mca group - SEIS and EIS, how does State Aid and DeMinimis affects these investment schemes?

12.30 - 15:00 - Presentation and Q&A (lunch provided) - Faraday Wharf Meeting Rooms, Room 3

State Aid / Deminimis, which is accrued by using the support Innovation Birmingham and the incubater programmes offer effects the amount of money you can receive later from investment schemes. mca will clarify this situation and explain why. They will also talk about the SEIS and EIS investment schemes in further detail.

Raising finance is one of the hardest hurdles an early-stage business faces. You may have a great idea, but there’s a limit to how much you can raise from your own pocket, families and friends. And venture capitalists and private equity houses generally are not interested until there is at least a proven proposition and sales are being made.

The Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) and Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) offer tax incentives to investors which helps to reduce the risk of their investment into early-stage companies. But the rules are not simple, and it’s easy to get things wrong.

The session will focus on State Aid/Deminimis and three key elements of the EIS and SEIS:

  • An overview of the two schemes, the approval process, the tax incentives available and the possible sources of finance
  • The mechanics of putting a scheme in place
  • Potential pitfalls, disqualifying events, withdrawal of relief, group changes

The session will be held by Dr Andrew Jupp and Adrian Holles.

He is now the lead tax consultant for mca group in the West Midlands.

Adrian Holles is a Director at mca group and manages the Birmingham Office.
