Event Information
About this Event
In this event series, will give you the opportunity to learn about the wide range of career opportunities for women in the sector and hear from women in various roles about their journeys and what they love about working in construction. So, whether you're just commencing your career or looking to change your career, this is a great opportunity to find out what construction & the built environment has to offer you and how your existing skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, planning & organising can be utilised.
The final event within the MCA Women in Construction event series takes place during National Apprenticeship Week. So we will focus on the range of apprenticeships available within the construction & the built environment from architecture to quantity surveying.
An apprenticeship is a great way to get into the sector and develop. Whilst on an apprenticeship you are gaining the technical qualifications as well as gaining experience & being able to put into practice what you have learnt. A benefit of an apprenticeship is that you are receiving a wage and having your tuition fees paid so you don’t build up a huge debt.
At LSBU, they have around 1,000 construction and built environment apprentices studying subjects such as building services engineering, quantity surveying and architecture. Around 20% are female.
Vicki, a Civil Engineering apprentice studying at LSBU won Apprentice of the Year Award 2020 by the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation (CIHT).
Hear from some women who are currently apprentices or have completed their apprenticeship.
