JUSTs session has been designed to help those preparing for the CII CF8/IFA Cert LTCI exam, or for those that have previously taken the qualification who require a refresher.

Key learning outcomes:

  • Understand the features and legislation relating to the UK care system
  • Comprehend Government changes to funding care
  • Understand regulation relating to long-term-care advice
  • Appreciate the divide between social and health care
  • Recognise how Financial and Needs assessments work and how assets are treated
  • Outline the differences between domiciliary and residential care
  • Describe the different sources of care provision
  • Recognise the role of long-term-care products
  • Determine where means tested and non-means tested benefits apply
  • Identify where the Mental Capacity Act 2005 applies and the role of substituted decision-makers

My Care Consultant (MCC) session:

For those with prior experience of long-term-care planning, you will know that much of the (often urgent) client need, sits within non-regulated care advice. Examples of non-regulated care advice include; navigating Local Authority and NHS assessments, checking benefit entitlements, and finding appropriate care. This advice on average takes between 2-6 months, and without a carefully thought through strategy, firms can struggle to offer this to clients cost-effectively. As advisers you have a choice to make; become a care specialist and offer regulated (paying for care) and non-regulated care advice in-house or outsource the non-regulated part.

MCCs session will begin with an interactive group quiz to establish why non-regulated care advice is a minefield. We will then look at the pros and cons of different business models, and how to provide care advice cost effectively. Well explain the important role of a care navigatorand how firms can work with care navigators to support their provision of good quality care advice, cost effectively. Well finish by looking at some real case studies designed to outline some common problems and needs that individuals and their families face when care is needed, and how to tackle these / where to go for information.

Key learning outcomes:

  • Interactive quiz - the minefield that is non-regulated care advice
  • The role of the Care Navigatorin supporting firms and their clients
  • Available ways to offer care advice cost effectively
  • The pros and cons of different care advice business models
  • Client care case studies
