MdZ ESTATE TOUR

About this event

Experience amusing scenes of mass social, economic and environmental devastation housed within four abandoned concrete tower blocks at a height of 2 metres. Created by artist Jimmy Cauty, ESTATE is a dystopian model village examining the meaning of disaster, utopia, community, home and estate through the experimental medium of model making. ESTATE features two modes; Lockdown, a calm and relaxed type of experience, and Full English, a mode full of chaos and loud noises.

A darkly humoured project, it tours nationally in a 40ft shipping container for visitors to walk through with previous locations including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Hull and Stoke on Trent. The model includes smoke, strobe lighting, wind, loud noises, tiny TV broadcasts and is suitable for adults and children over 5.

ABOUT THE AUXILIARY

GALLERY // STUDIOS // WORKSHOP // TOOL LIBRARY // RESIDENCY // FESTIVALS

The Auxiliary Project Space (Estb. 2016) started life as a raw, malleable live/work space in Stockton-on-Tees. Inviting artists into the home of directors Anna Byrne & Liam Slevin, the idea was to reimagine and reconfigure the space around their needs; from workspace to gallery, meeting point to studio. The Auxiliary grew and expanded, delivering festivals and performance series across the Tees Valley such as FEED (2016-Present) Middlesbrough Art Weekender (2017, 2018 & 2019) Brick Day 2017, Stockton Contemporary 2018 and Sonic Arts Week 2019. Upcommiing festvals include Middlesbrough Art Weekender 2020, Sonic Arts Week 2020 & Stockton Contemporary 2020.

In 2019, The Auxiliary expanded to include a 10,000 sqft. warehouse space in Middlesbrough. Consisting of two galleries, 12 studios and workshop/performance space, The Auxiliary Warehouse launched on the 24th May, 2019.

Curatorially, The Auxiliary is a site for the production of experimental & sound art practices. It encourages & promotes the sonic arts through investigating the rich local industrial heritage and reimagines the Tees Valley as a site for invigorated, creative industries.
