Event description

Description

British songwriters, Me for Queen and Emily Maguire play the Glad Cafe in Glasgow as part of a special co-headline summer tour.

Emily Maguire (duo)

A classically-trained multi-instrumentalist with five albums and two books to her name, Emily Maguire is truly “a talent to be reckoned with” (R2 Magazine), her strong, thought-provoking lyrics, supremely expressive vocals and stunning live performances winning her fans across the globe. After living in a shack in the Australian bush where she made her first two albums, Emily returned to the UK to tour with American legend Don McLean and make her third album ‘Believer’, a ‘masterpiece’ according to Maverick Magazine, with two singles playlisted on Radio 2. Her latest album ‘A Bit Of Blue’ was released in February 2017.

Me for Queen (full band)

Years of classical training, together with a Blues guitarist for a father, make for an interesting mix of Soul and Folk. Me For Queen’s piano-based songs draw obvious comparisons to Regina Spektor and Carol King but manage to fuse hints of Kate Bush and Laura J Martin. Mary cites Judee Sill & This is the Kit as a few of her favourites and says Me For Queen is “a sort of sketchpad for whatever’s happening in my head. I just try to write songs that talk to people.” With striking lyrics and “beautiful, soaring vocals” (The Guardian), Me For Queen has had airplay on BBC 6 Music and on BBC Radio around the UK. ‘Slow Train’ was included in Tom Robinson’s personal top 5 Fresh Faves as well as being selected as Single of the Week on Janice Forsyth's BBC Scotland Culture show.

Kerri Watt (solo) will be playing to open the show at 7.30pm.

Kerri Watt is a Scottish singer-songwriter who's lyrics tell the story of the great loves and adventures of her life so far. She's toured all round the UK and Europe supporting acts such as Embrace, Nina Nesbitt, Starsailor and Ward Thomas as well as festivals including Glastonbury and the Isle Of Wight Fest. BBC Radio 2 supported her two singles putting them on their A and B playlists leading to opportunities to play live on ITV, STV and on BBC Radio stations across the country. Her energetic and heartfelt live performance invites the audience to join her on her adventures and forget about life for a while! Kerri’s new single ‘Old School Love’ is out this summer.
