Meadowsong Training
Event Information
About this Event
The purpose of this day is to provide the tools and knowledge to teachers in order for teachers to be able to deliver the RSPB Meadowsong programme.
About Meadowsong
‘Meadowsong’ is a 20-minute-long song cycle, composed by Kate Stilitz, which celebrates meadow habitats. It is an inspiring celebration of UK wildlife, and of the interconnectedness of all living things.Based around four songs, the ‘Meadowsong Programme’ offers children and the wider school community an opportunity to explore, discover and connect deeply with wildflower habitats and their wider environment through a combination of creative music, movement, visual arts, writing activities, science curriculum-linked lessons and first-hand experiences of nature.
The Programme
The programme is based around the Meadowsong song cycle that can be delivered by teachers. This brings wildflowers into almost all parts of the curriculum through an enriched, cross-curricula programme, delivered with Year Three students over a half term or term. It is supported by a suite of resources, including the RSPB’s ‘Wild Challenge’ award scheme and WWF’s ‘Seek’ app and is delivered across England by Kate Stilitz (composer and teacher), as part of a partnership with the RSPB and WWF. The day also includes training and guidance on how to create your own meadow (small or large) on your school site. This day is most suitable for Year 3 teachers and or music leads and is open to two teachers per school (on the understanding that at least 30 students take part in Meadowsong per teacher attending). This training day is open to all Primary/ Lower school settings in Bedford Borough, Luton and Central Bedfordshire.
Refreshments will be provided throughout the day. Lunch is not included.
This is a 1 day training event being offered FREE by RSPB, in conjunction with Music for Bedford Borough, The Culture Challenge, and Inspiring Music
