Measuring outcomes that matter to patients: what they are, why they matter and how we might measure them

Thursday 10 to Friday 11 December

Measuring outcomes that matter is high on the policy and practice agendas. But our understanding of this ‘personal outcomes’ based approach is in its infancy. Unless we understand ‘what really matters’ to individuals our public services will not be able to match what they deliver to what people value.

We very much hope you can join us for this invitation-only event bringing together leading edge thinkers, expert practitioners and service users, and policy makers from across the four nations to focus on the challenges and opportunities of measuring outcomes that really matter.

Measuring outcomes that matter to patients can tell us whether resources are being allocated efficiently and underpin the measurement of cost-effectiveness. If we can measure the inputs, outputs and outcomes from this personalised approach to public service delivery, we can also aggregate up these metrics to the level of the population in order to deliver the highest possible value public service - one that is informed by service user needs and preferences.

There are many questions we want to explore of which these are just examples:

What are promising practices in this measuring person-centred care?

What can we learn from other public services?

How will measurement need to be different for patients with long-term conditions as opposed to an acute condition?

At the event you will have the chance to:

  • explore the relationship between and role of personal outcomes, PCOMS, PREMS and PROMS
  • consider the ways personal outcomes relate to, for example, clinical and system outcomes, in a coherent measurement system
  • think how personal outcomes can be aggregated up to the level of the population
  • look at how personal outcomes can be used to improve system performance.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at healthfoundationsummit@gmail.com

Please RSVP by Friday 16 October.

We very much hope you can join us.
