Meat from Grain - pigs, fish and poultry
Over 10 Saturdays, we will unearth the role of soil in our ecology and question how best to graze the grass and farm protein. We will unpack the impact of our industrialised food system on our daily bread, our nutrition and health. We will grapple with the big numbers and small actions on carbon emissions and food waste. We will assess our impact on our fellow species, whether they be walking, swimming or flying, and imagine how to better use our land.
On day 5, we specifically examine the role and impact of pigs, fish and poultry in our global food supply chain and their use of human edible protein and cereal. As well as examining altnernative sources of protein for both human and animal feed, we will consider how much meat would can or should ethically eat as well as welfare issues for the animals and the humans in the food chain, including antibiotic usage.
Our guides are Anna Heaton, Director of the Pasture Fed Livestock Association, Dr Ali Kaley of the James Hutton Institute and Nick Underdown. Marine Policy Advisor, Environment Link.
