Media coverage on a shoestring - top tips from a charity PR expert

Go from PR Zero to PR Hero in 90 minutes. I'll share how you can DIY public relations and get your story featured in the media with no budget and no previous experience.

This introductory course is perfect for anyone setting up or working with a small charity, non profit or community project who has limited resource and needs to deliver media coverage themselves.

I will share all my top tips gained from over 30 years working in-house and freelance in public relations for charities, non profits and small businesses. We will cover:

• How to spot a good story/what the media are looking for
• How to tell your story in a press release or a pitch
• How to find journalists to tell your story to
• When to pitch your story/send your press release
• How to secure regular media coverage
• How to build your PR bank of stories and images
• Your PR questions answered

All participants will get a copy of my guide to writing a press release and some sample press releases.

I will offer follow up 'power hour' sessions for anyone wanting one to one or small group advice.

I have over 30 years experience working in PR including working Leeds Action to Create Homes, Railway Mission, the North York Moors National Park Authority, National Railway Museum, National Trust, North Yorkshire Moors Railway and freelance for a wide range of environmental, small arts and culture organisations and charities. I have also generated a wealth of media coverage for my wildlife rescue work and jewellery business.

I've secured coverage in everything from national BBC TV, Sky News, the Daily Mail, Telegraph, Guardian and regional and local titles including the Yorkshire Post, York Press and Hull Daily Mail.
