Media Literacy versus Fake News: Critical Thinking, Resilience and Civic Engagement

The Centre for Excellence in Media Partnership CEMP

Leading media literacy researchers from the US and UK will come together in London with teachers, librarians, journalists, digital media producers and young people to tackle disinformation with media literacy.

The open seminar will consist of presentations on media literacy for critical thinking and resilience to fake news and misinformation, followed by a panel discussion with questions from the audience.

The workshop will bring together key stakeholders in this crucial societal issue to listen to young people and share perspectives, working to a collective aim – a practical strategy for harnessing media literacy to develop young people’s resilience to ‘fake news’, with a focus on case studies from both the UK and the US. This series of interactive workshops will culminate in the research team producing an online, open access toolkit for media literacy resilience.
