Event description

Description

Calm Mediation is giving skilled mediators an opportunity to take on cases within the community.

We are an organisation with a long-standing reputation as a front-runner in conflict resolution and in the field of Community Mediation in particular. We run well-regarded accredited annual training in Community Mediation that takes 6 days. However, for those who are already accredited in a different discipline of conflict resolution, we have created a one-day course and called it a ‘conversion’ as it allows you to learn how the principles you are already familiar with can be applied to Community Mediation.

These approaches have been used to great success across the UK, as we have over 10 active contracts with Housing Providers. Our resolution rate is excellent with nine out of ten clients who meet in mediation reaching an agreement.

The course is delivered by Heather Loebl, an accredited and practising community mediator, with many years of mediation experience which enable her to use colourful, real-life examples as part of the training.

What is included?

• The language of community mediation

• Key differences between Community Mediation and other forms of mediation

• How to form quality, lasting agreements with anyone

• The art of co-mediating and safe practice

• Certificate of attendance

• 5 CPD points from the College of Mediators

We provide lunch for us to enjoy as a group and there will be a selection of sandwiches, crisps and fruit. However, we will not be able to cater to all dietary preferences.

What you need to know

Places are limited. Only 20 are available to guarantee a quality learning environment.

Attendees who wish to attend must email a scanned current mediation accreditation certificate prior to attending, to info@calmmediation.org.

Arrivals from 9:30am, workshop is 10am to 4pm.

Want to Volunteer as a mediator with Calm, following this training?

If you wish to practice as a volunteer community mediator within Calm Mediation you must provide a CV. In addition, there will be a 15-30 minute telephone interview prior to the conversion training (we can work around your schedule).

There is a prescribed pathway for anyone who wishes to mediate for Calm and this one-day course is the first step.

  1. Full-day attendance of this ‘Conversion’ training (held annually) - the only training with an associated fee.

  2. Attend a FREE Induction. This year it is being held on Wednesday 20th May (10am to 12.30pm) in a London venue to be confirmed. Details will be forwarded to you separately once you have booked a place on this conversion workshop.

  3. Reinforce your learning with a mediation observation, before co-mediating one yourself with an experienced Calm mediator. Getting an observation will depend on your availability and for a case to be in a neutral venue, not a client’s home. Please note, you may be waiting up to five months. The majority of Calm’s mediation cases are within working hours, Monday to Friday, we currently have 45 active community mediators. To give you an idea of caseload, there were 12 cases in February needing two mediators each.

  4. Annual key performance indicators for Calm volunteers are 10 hours of mediating and 6 CPD points with the College of Mediators (from Calm's free skills' development sessions), a one-to-one supervision and a group supervision (also free).

What geographical areas might I mediate in?
