Description

Mediating medical cases: the way forward in the light of the Charlie Gard judgment

In his final judgment in the recent Charlie Gard case, Mr Justice Francis said: "it is my clear view that mediation should be attempted in all cases such as this one even if all that it does is to achieve a greater understanding by the parties of each other's positions" but what does medical mediation involve and when should it be used?

This symposium brings together four speakers with first hand experience of managing and mediating conflict between parents, patients and health professionals to describe how mediation can be used to help resolve disputes in these emotive and complex cases. Followed by questions and discussion.

This symposium is open to health professionals, NHS managers, patient groups, lawyers and mediators and is part of Mediation Awareness Week 2017. www.mediationawarenessweek.co.uk
