Mind Matters Initiative
The Mind Matters Initiative (MMI) aims to make a real difference to those suffering from stress and mental ill health within the veterinary team. Funded and run by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (the regulatory body for the profession), with a Taskforce comprising representatives from a range of veterinary bodies, MMI is working to:
* reduce the stigma associated with mental illness
* help to develop a culture where help-seeking is accepted
* improve access to sources of appropriate help
* better equip individuals to spot signs of mental ill health in their colleagues and to signpost to appropriate sources of help
* help to reduce the incidence of stress and mental health conditions within the veterinary profession
* facilitate the sharing of best practice in terms of interventions and support, at home and overseas, within and outside the profession
* understand what triggers problems within the veterinary team, and identify any profession-level solutions that can be put in place
