Medical School Application Workshop

I am pleased to confirm that we will be hosting a Medical School Application Workshop event on Saturday 8th April 2017 here at Royal Blackburn Hospital from 09:00 to 17:30. The event will be run independently by a select number of current Year 4 Manchester Medical Students who are keen to help aspiring medical students from the Lancashire region.
This event is for 1st Year Sixth Formers who wish to study medicine at university. This event has been ran several times in the past and has received overwhelmingly positive feedback.
Actvities start at 9:30am and finish at 5:30pm. Attendees should arrive for registration at 8:45am.
The event is also free!

Take part in many interactive sessions including:
- A Mock PBL Case - get involved and become more familiar with a popular style of teaching in UK medical schools
- Communication Skills in Medicine - learn the basics to communicating skills as a medical student: great fun, and it can be really helpful for interviews!
- Medical Ethics discussions - Take part in discussions on key ethical scenarios, a common topic in interviews!
- Simulated Primary Care Centre - Our most popular and exciting session: get in role as a medical student to speak to patients, and discuss with tutors their biomedical and ethical scenarios
- Q&A with Medical Students - The entire event is ran by our amazing team of medical student volunteers, who are always happy to answer your questions

To be eligible to attend, you must want to pursue a career as a doctor and be expected to obtain the required grades to enter Medical School. You must have completed your GCSEs and be a student in a 6th form or college within Lancashire (mature students also welcome to apply).
Refreshments: Attendees are advised to bring their own packed lunch, or bring money to purchase lunch from the hospital canteen. Lunch and refreshments will not be provided. We will not be responsible for attendees who go off-site during lunch. We will also not be responsible for the food you eat.
Dress Code: Attendees should wear smart, tidy clothing and present themselves in a professional manner. Jeans, cargo pants, leggings and similar clothing are not allowed. T-shirts are also not permitted. Footwear should be comfortable but smart and must NOT be in the form of trainers. Ladies who wear a skirt/dress must wear black/navy or natural tan hosiery.
If your appearance contravenes this dress code, you will be asked to return home to change. If you have any queries about what is acceptable to wear, please contact us in advance of your arrival. Should it be necessary, you will be provided with protective clothing.
Equipment: For one of the activities you will need the use of a smartphone or other internet enabled device to take part. (Please note: you will be responsible for the safety and security of any belongings you bring with you on the day. The venue and the students will not accept any responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged items). You will also require a pen and paper to take notes throughout the day.
Photographs: On the day, it is likely that photographs will be taken for use by East Lancashire Hospitals Trust (ELHT) and University of Manchester Students' Union. By attending this event, you agree to photography being taken. You further agree to any of the photographs being used to publicise the programme on any advertisement platform which may include social media platforms belonging to ELHT or the University of Manchester Students' Union.
Attendees are required to sign in on arrival.
A limited number of tickets are available. To avoid disappointment tickets should be booked ASAP.
