Medieval Castle Design: Power, Protection and Prestige

Discover the world of medieval fortifications and uncover how castles were more than just military strongholds. This lecture explores the evolution of castle design from motte-and-bailey structures to imposing stone fortresses, examining how architecture balanced defence, daily life, and the display of wealth and power. Learn the strategic thinking behind moats, murder holes, and machicolations—and how these timeless structures shaped the landscape and politics of medieval Europe.
