Medieval Jewish history in Worcester to the expulsion of 1275: isolation or integration?

This lecture will discuss the history of the Jewish community in Worcester and England up to the expulsions in 1275 and 1290. Luke Devine and Dean Irwin will explore the history of the community in Worcester, its key figures and stories. The lecture will refer to records held at Worcester Cathedral, and also to the Chancery Roll, Receipt Rolls, and Plea Rolls of the Exchequer of the Jews. Additionally, it will draw upon the legacy of Joe Hillaby’s research in thinking about future directions in medieval Jewish history. There will be an opportunity to see some original documents from the Cathedral Library, as well as copies of documents.
