MEDIEVAL METAL: DRAWING ARMOUR!

Online Live Class: WEDNESDAY 29th October

+14 DAYS RECORDING ACCESS

Taught by Jade Anthony

Led by Jade Anthony, this class will be an inspiring journey into the glittering world of medieval armour. We’ll delve into history by exploring exquisitely crafted pieces from museum collections across the globe—ornate helmets, engraved breastplates, and gleaming gauntlets—while also embracing the imaginative side of armour design, from fantasy epics to pop culture icons.

A key focus of the session will be on rendering metal and mastering the tricky art of reflections. Jade will guide you through demonstrations on how to capture shine, shadow, and surface detail, helping you build confidence in drawing complex textures and luminous finishes.

Students will begin by working from reference photographs of real historical armour before moving into more playful territory—looking at examples of fantasy designs and creating their own ornate, imaginative armour. This class will be a chance not only to sharpen your technical rendering skills but also to explore creativity and storytelling through design.

Perfect for all skill levels, this session will encourage you to balance precision with invention, whether you’re interested in historical detail, fantasy illustration, or simply pushing your drawing practice in new directions.

ABOUT OUR TUTOR

Jade Anthony is a London based artist working across painting, printmaking, drawing and installation. She studied fine art at Winchester School of art before studying at the Royal drawing School in 2022. Her work has been featured in RAID Magazine and Woolwich Print Fair, and in 2024 she was feautured in SHOWSTUDIO's paris fahion week coverage. Anthony's work spans a wide range of mediums and subjects, drifting between abstraction and representation, flatness and illusiory depth. Anthony intentionally exchews any particular 'style', instead focusing on the unique qualities of each medium, allowing herself to interrogate her own practice constantly. Drawing from historical sources, the natural world, digital culture and personal experiences, Anthony layers her subjects in playful, theatrical compositions often featuring Trompe l'oeil elements and a blend of techniques.
