Meet Outside: Connect, Move, Reset: Coombe Hill
(Here is the planned route which includes steep hills and paths on this walk. It may change a little - weather, ability and livestock depending! https://explore.osmaps.com/route/25770543/kft-connect-move-reset-coombe-hill)
Meet Outside: Connect, Move, Reset is about mental wellbeing and connection, not a walking group in the traditional sense. While I always have a route and our safety in mind, I’m not a walk leader or guide as such, and I may not know the facts of the area, but I’m always open to others sharing their knowledge along the way. I’m an individual who is an advocate for mental health who understands the benefits of being outdoors and sharing time with others.
The purpose of this group is to meet, connect, and share with mental wellbeing in mind. These meetups are open to all abilities and are about moving at a comfortable pace, pausing when needed, and taking in the surroundings together. Sometimes we walk, sometimes we sit, there’s no pressure to keep up or cover a set distance. It’s simply an opportunity to ponder, and walk in the countryside in good company.
Route difficulty varies, some routes are easy, others more moderate or challenging. Please check the event description for details.
All are welcome. Children can join with a responsible adult, and dogs are welcome at their owner’s discretion.
I recognise that many rural paths aren’t fully accessible for wheelchair or mobility aid users, but I’m open to hearing what works for you. I have planned wheel friendly routes in the past and am keen to hear what works best for you and would love suggestions on how to include more accessible options.
📍 Meeting Point: Coombe Hill National Trust Car Park: Coombe Hill, Lodge Hill, Aylesbury HP17 0UR
⏰ Date, Time & Duration: 24 May 2025, 10:00am Approx. 2.5 - 3 hours
📝 Brief Description: Due to the weather and unsettled cows I may adjust the route on the day. We plan to head down the steep part of Coombe Hill towards Beacon Hill, Ellesborough. Walk around Chequers and stop at Buckmoorend Farm for a cup of tea. And fair warning, once we head down that hill, we’ll need to come back up, so we’ll definitely get the cardio in!
🏞️ Difficulty Level: Moderate - some slippery paths, tree roots and steep hilly parts up and down.
♿ Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible up to the monument, see National Trust website for more details.
🚻 Facilities & Café: Buckmoorend Farm Shop, outdoor cafe and Portaloo around 30min walk from Coombe Hill carpark
🎒 What to Bring: Comfortable clothing for ever changing weather and terrain (check on the day). Refreshments, medications, cash/card, fully charged phone.
🌦️ Weather Considerations: If it’s rainy I’ll still be aiming to go ahead with perhaps a few adjustments to the route. The only reason it would be cancelled if it was torrential rain and storms.
✅ How to Join: Please sign up via Eventbrite or I won’t know you’re coming. On the rare occasion no one signs up, I may not be there.
⚠️ Potential Risks & Considerations
We aim to create a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone, but as this is an outdoor event, there are some risks to be aware of:
- Weather conditions: Paths may be slippery with trip hazards and strong winds or heat may affect comfort. Please check the forecast and dress accordingly.
- Uneven terrain: Some areas may have uneven ground, slopes, or loose surfaces. If you have any accessibility concerns, feel free to ask in advance.
- Personal health & wellbeing: Please listen to your body and participate in a way that feels comfortable for you. If you have any medical conditions that may affect your participation, take appropriate precautions.
- Shared public spaces: We may encounter other walkers, cyclists, dogs, farm animals or wildlife. Please be mindful and respectful of others. If a route looks risky (i.e walking through a field of unsettled cows) we may turn back for safety.
- Facilities & amenities: Availability of toilets and cafés may vary; please check details before arriving.
