Event description

Description

Author Sarah Dunnakey is coming to The Word to talk about her debut novel ‘The Companion’, a mystery set in Yorkshire in the 1930s and the present day. She will be reading from the novel as well as discussing the inspiration behind it, her journey to publication and her experience as a debut author.

When she’s not writing fiction, Sarah is a question setter and verifier on a variety of TV quiz shows including Mastermind, University Challenge and Pointless. After her talk she will host a specially devised literary quiz that promises to be fun and illuminating.

About Sarah Dunnakey

After brief stints as a college librarian, an education officer and an NHS researcher, Sarah landed her dream job as a Question Researcher on Mastermind. She now writes and verifies questions for several TV shows including University Challenge and Pointless. Sarah’s work, especially researching the Specialist Subjects on Mastermind, has been a rich source of ideas for her writing. Her short story, The Marzipan Husband was broadcast on BBC Radio 4. The Companion won a Northern Writers’ Award, and is Sarah’s first novel. She lives in West Yorkshire with her husband and daughter.
