About Prensnelo

Prensnelo's full name is Jean Renel Pierre Louis. He is a painter, photographer and film maker from Petit Goâve, Haïti, although he currently resides in Grenada.

His first public exhibition in 2000 was as part of a collective show including ten Haitian artists, one of whom was Jean-Claude ‘Tiga’ Garoute, co-founder of the Saint-Soleil post-naïve school of Haitian painting.

In 2014, Prensnelo spent one month visiting Grenada on art and cultural research residency, creating new works inspired by the historical connection between Haiti and Grenada.

As part of this he held a week long workshop with five local artists. The result was a successful exhibition titled Amitye and the residency was expanded to eight months.

During this time, Prensnelo relocated to Grenada permanently and since then he has hosted classes for adults and children.

In 2015, Prensnelo co-founded a creative learning space/gallery called Sans Souci Arts Studio (SSAS), as well as AMICAL, a Haitian-Grenadian cultural centre.

Through these new organisations he co-facilitated a one month environmental art workshop for 17 male inmates at HMP, funded by UNESCO, called 'Empowerment for the Disadvantaged'. Through AMICAL he also facilitated a camp for underprivaleged children of The Queen Elizabeth Home for Children in 2016.

During a week’s stay in Spodnji Brnik, Slovenia (2015), he facilitated a two-day cultural exchange and art workshop with students at the Mengeš Elementary School.

Prensnelo describes his works as exploring Haitian identity, culture, history and tradition. His mixed media paintings have been created on canvas and wood.

Prensnelo has exhibited worldwide.
