In collaboration with Waterstones, and as part of the Festival of the Common Weal, Common Weal: Perth & Kinross is delighted to welcome two of Scotland's brightest literary talents to the Soutar Theatre.
Alan Bissett is one of Scottish literature's most distinctive voices. As well as being a novelist, short story writer and playwright, he's a superb performer whose live readings are energetic, entertaining and guaranteed to stay long in the memory. His independence referendum satire, "The Pure, the Dead and The Brilliant" was one of the highlights of the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe.
Ajay Close is a former Soutar Writer in Residence in Perth. Her musical play "In a Sma' Room", based on William Soutar's life and work, toured Scotland in 2012 and was revived at the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe. She has had three highly-acclaimed novels published. The latest is "Trust", a multi-layered account of female friendship over three decades, from the miners' strike of the 1980s to the financial collapse of the last few years.
