‘Ready to be Inspired’

In June 2017, the Inspired Festival will see us open our doors to the wider community in Birmingham in celebration of the wealth of creative talent being nurtured and developed at our University. In the lead up to Inspired Festival, the ADM Employability Team will be offering bespoke workshops on Wednesday 17 May. The sessions will provide advice and guidance on how to brand yourself, Blogging & Vlogging techniques and mentor power sessions.

Workshops are open to all students, however those in their final year may find most of the workshops useful for preparation after graduation.

Mentor Power Hour

Dr Islam Issa

Islam Issa received his PhD in English Literature from the University of Birmingham where he worked as a Visiting Lecturer and Teaching Fellow before joining Birmingham City University in 2015.

In 2009, Islam worked as a Research Consultant for BBC Arts on the renowned ‘Poetry Season’ documentary about John Milton. BBC Drama currently engages his services for consultation on Arabic translations and pronunciations in their scripts. Islam recently researched and curated a high-profile exhibition exploring Muslim contributions to World War One (launched January 2016). Islam has since been an advisor to the Birmingham Museums Trust on the reinterpretation of their collections and also to the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. He continues to represent the British Embassy at numerous high profile events.

Tamara McCleary

Tamara’s experience includes writing for publications such as Marie Claire, Wolf & Badger, Channel 4, and Graduate Fashion Week. Tamara has worked for a number of media and entertainment companies such as The Voice and Britain’s Got Talent, as well as, in fashion working on projects with clients such as The British Fashion Council, Club Monaco and Lulu Guinness. Tamara now works in Digital as Network Manager at The Digital Fairy.

Tamara is also an award winning blogger and Managing Director of Bonafide Supernova (www.bonafide-supernova.com). The team at Bonafide have worked with brands such as Samsung, Adidas, Nike, Dr Martens, New Balance, Henry Holland, ASOS, Boohoo and Missguided.

 

Jadean Taylor

Jadean is currently working as a Campaigns Executive at The Rank Group at Grosvenor Casinos. The role consists of planning, creating and executing 360 marketing campaigns which include communication plans for social media, CRM, POS and digital. In addition, Jadean has also helped develop the marketing strategy for UK Poker. Prior to this role, Jadean worked at King as a Global Brand Coordinator where she supported and helped develop TV campaigns for Candy Crush and Farm Heroes. Jadean has also had some experience as an intern at MTV where she had the opportunity to blog about V festival and MTV lounge. 

During her time at MTV, Jadean had a short placement at Paramount Pictures where she analysed their social media channels and presented her suggestions to the director of Home Entertainment. Her suggestions were then implemented into their social media plans going forward.

Alison Grade

Alison is a Nesta-accredited Creative Enterprise Trainer and mentor. Alison uses her rare mix of creative, academic and business experience to help transform creative concepts into business reality.

During her career Alison has produced over 7,000 minutes of film and television with a combined spend of over £16m. She has worked on documentaries, animation, drama, feature films, factual and entertainment productions on both high and low budgets. Currently Alison owns Mission Accomplished; a consultancy offering training, mentoring and strategic advice to start-ups and established SMEs in the Creative Industries.
